Fee-only Financial Planning For Dentists
Why dentists? We feel we add the most value doing financial planning for small business owners with a professional practice model. We love working with dentists and specialists and by focusing on this specific niche we are able to know their business beyond the numbers.
The practice of financial planning has layers of complexity and nuance, and many areas available for concentration. There are plenty of fine firms successful in the practice of generalized financial planning. We have a different vision: to provide business owners and their families excellent, owner-specific fee-only financial planning and coaching.
We believe that “fee-only” is an important distinction. “Fee-only” means we charge a quoted fee (usually an annual fee, billed quarterly) for financial planning, consulting and/or monitoring, thus, fee-only financial planning to dentists. Some “fee only” advisors charge based on assets or income, we do not. We are advice-only financial planners. We do not sell products or accept commissions, and don’t accept referral, asset-based or revenue-based fees. For us, fee-only – or more specifically advice only — equates to being financially independent and objective, and we believe that allows us to provide better advice and
We Would Like To Introduce Ourselves...
Sharon Weaver, CFP®, AWMA®
I created Mission Financial Planning, Inc. to provide fee-only financial planning to dentists and their families.
I have worked in the investment industry for over 30 years and have been a Certified Financial Planner for 25 years, involved with individuals and institutions in various aspects of investing, management, financial planning and marketing. I built Mission Financial Planning, Inc. to specialize in dentists and specialty practice owners and specifically, Financial Planning for Dentists.
My focus: Financial planning for dentists, families and retirees. Services include personal and practice cash flow planning, debt management, tax strategy, education funding, insurance assessment, and estate planning.
Approach: Understands the life of a business owner, looks at the whole picture, plans for “real life”.
When I’m not working: You will find me in my kayak or on a hiking trail, having fun with my mostly-grown kids, and hopefully traveling more for fun!
Prior to joining Mission Financial Planning, I provided counsel to financial advisers who served high net worth clients and their families. I also spent over a decade wholesaling investments for some of the most successful firms in the financial industry.
As a Regional Vice President for MetLife and Director of Global Consulting Services for Janus Capital Group I learned first hand the importance of truly independent, unbiased advice.
I am a graduate of the University of California, Riverside with a B.A. in Psychology and was a social worker prior to entering the financial services arena.
My focus: Financial planning for Medical and Dental professionals, business owners and their families.
Approach: My clients have often shared that working with me is like visiting a counselor. I like to understand what is going well for my clients, as well as the things which they are struggling with. I strive to support those that trust me by listening without judgment and providing strategic, ethical solutions to life's financial challenges.
When I’m not working: I live in Olathe, Kansas with my wife, Jill, and our two daughters, Elena and Maya. I enjoy reading, both alone and with the kids, writing, soccer, and mountain biking.
I have worked in the financial services industry for over 15 years, including 9 years of Financial Planner and Analyst roles requiring analysis of detailed information for financial planning, presentations and recommendations. I’ve also worked as a bookkeeper, accountant, office manager and marketing representative, and run my own Mary Kay business. I completed training and passed the tests for the Certified Financial Planner designation and Financial Para Planner Certificate, and at one time was Securities Licensed with both a Series 7 and 63, and carried Life, Health and Accident Insurance Licenses.
Approach: People-person who enjoys organizing clients’ finances and providing excellent client care.
I have over 20 years of accounting and tax experience: in CPA firms doing bookkeeping, audit, and tax services for clients, in a corporate setting doing various tax and analytical functions, and as an independent contractor providing accounting services to small businesses. Specifically, I have helped with the set up of the accounting books and record-keeping functions, prepared and maintained budgets, handled accounts receivable and payable, prepared monthly reconciliations and financial statements, processed payroll and related returns, responded to government notices, filed quarterly estimated tax payments, and prepared income tax returns. I worked for both medium and large public accounting firms (Kellogg & Andelson and Ernst & Young), for Butler Manufacturing (tax department and internal analysis) and independently for individuals (tax work) and small businesses (bookkeeping and tax compliance) before joining Mission Financial Planning.
