Fee-only Financial Planning For Dentists

Why dentists?  We feel we add the most value doing financial planning for small business owners with a professional practice model.  We love working with dentists and specialists and by focusing on this specific niche we are able to know their business beyond the numbers.

The practice of financial planning has layers of complexity and nuance, and many areas available for concentration.  There are plenty of fine firms successful in the practice of generalized financial planning.  We have a different vision:  to provide business owners and their families excellent, owner-specific fee-only financial planning and coaching.

We believe that “fee-only” is an important distinction.  “Fee-only” means we charge a quoted fee (usually an annual fee, billed quarterly) for financial planning, consulting and/or monitoring, thus, fee-only financial planning to dentists.  Some “fee only” advisors charge based on assets or income, we do not.  We are advice-only financial planners.  We do not sell products or accept commissions, and don’t accept referral, asset-based or revenue-based fees.   For us, fee-only – or more specifically advice only — equates to being financially independent and objective, and we believe that allows us to provide better advice and

Sharon Weaver, CFP®, AWMA®

I created Mission Financial Planning, Inc. to provide fee-only financial planning to dentists and their families.

I have worked in the investment industry for over 25 years and have been a Certified Financial Planner for 20 years, involved with individuals and institutions in various aspects of investing, management, financial planning and marketing.  I purchased Mission Financial Planning, Inc. to specialize in dentists and specialty practice owners and specifically, Financial Planning for Dentists.

My focus: Financial planning for dentists, families and retirees. Services include personal and practice cash flow planning, debt management, tax strategy, education funding, insurance assessment, and estate planning. 

Approach:  Understands the life of a business owner, looks at the whole picture, plans for “real life”.

Lisa Clark

Support Specialist

I have worked in the financial services industry for over 15 years, including 9 years of Financial Planner and Analyst roles requiring analysis of detailed information for financial planning, presentations and recommendations.  I’ve also worked as a bookkeeper, accountant, office manager and marketing representative, and run my own Mary Kay business. I completed training and passed the tests for the Certified Financial Planner designation and Financial Para Planner Certificate, and at one time was Securities Licensed with both a Series 7 and 63, and carried Life, Health and Accident Insurance Licenses. 

Approach:  People-person who enjoys organizing clients’ finances and providing excellent client care.  

Robin Long

I have over 20 years of accounting, tax, and CPA experience. Over the years, I have helped my employers and clients incorporate and set up their businesses, including the initial set up of all accounting policies and procedures. I am familiar with financial statements and cash flow analysis, payroll and invoicing, accounts payable and receivable functions, bank reconciliations, and filing quarterly estimated tax payments.  I worked for Deloitte & Touche, Yellow Freight and Butler Manufacturing before going out on my own, and provide Mission Financial Planning’s clients QuickBooks consulting, and special situation, project or limited scope accounting.  

Tonyia Thomas Kennedy, MSW, MBA

My background includes over 13 years of financial services experience, including consulting with individuals and small corporations regarding investments and banking, and trading taxable and tax-free fixed-income securities.  For a time I also worked in the mental health field, counseling with individuals, employees and employers, consulting and providing crisis intervention through an employee assistance program.

I am a member of the Financial Therapy Association, a natural fit considering my background.  I hold a Masters Degree in Social Work from the University of Kansas and an MBA in Finance from Rockhurst University, Kansas City, MO. 

Approach: Thoughtful and comprehensive, interested in financial health and positive outcomes.

 

The CFP®, CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ and certification marks are financial planning credentials awarded by Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards Inc. (CFP Board) to individuals who meet education, examination, experience and ethics requirements.*

The AWMA®, ACCREDITED WEALTH MANAGEMENT ADVISOR™ designation is sponsored by the College for Financial Planning®. It is a course of study encompassing wealth strategies, equity-based compensation plans, tax reduction alternatives, and asset protection alternatives. 

Planners with the CFP® and AWMA® designations agree to comply with a Code of Ethics and abide by the Standards of Professional Conduct and Terms and Conditions and are subject to a disciplinary process.

CFP® certificants renew their designation every two-years by completing 30 hours of continuing education, reaffirming adherence to the Standards of Professional Conduct and complying with self-disclosure requirements.

AWMA® designees renew their designation every two-years by completing 16 hours of continuing education, reaffirming adherence to the Standards of Professional Conduct and complying with self-disclosure requirements.

Regulatory Oversight:  Mission Financial Planning. Inc. (MFP) is a Registered Investment Advisor registered with the State of Kansas. Each year, advisors are required to file an annual report online known as the ADV (Part I). To view Mission Financial Planning’s Form ADV Part I online visit Adviser Info on the SEC site, click “Investment Adviser Search” on the left navigation panel and enter “Mission Financial Planning” to do a firm name search. Part I provides information about the business, ownership, clients, employees, business practices, affiliations, and any disciplinary events.

MFP is also required to offer all clients and potential clients a copy of Form ADV Part II, updated annually. Part II of the ADV is a narrative brochure containing information such as the types of advisory services offered, fee schedule, disciplinary information, conflicts of interest, and the educational and business background of management / advisory personnel.  Download a copy of MFP’s ADV II  RIGHT HERE.
